Exeter Township's Highway Department is managed by Clarence D. Hamm, Highway Superintendent. The 12-man Highway Crew repair roads, install drainage facilities, collect leaves, mow all open space, rights-of-way and detention ponds through the Township. In addition, they plow snow, install signs, maintain parks, maintain the brush depository and pave roads. The Highway Crew also responds to emergencies such as downed trees and clogged storm sewers.
The Road Crew collects leaves in all residential subdivisions each Autumn. There is no set schedule and no set pattern. We will get to your property as soon as possible and calling the Township Office will not speed up the process.
Rural area residents (this would include any property not in a subdivision such as Farming Ridge, Hunter's Run, Sunrise, etc.) should call the Township Office and let us know that you have leaves at the street line for our pick up.
The leaves must be raked to the street line and may not include branches or other debris. Branches and debris, such as steel, bricks, etc. (which has been mixed uncovered) causes substantial damage to our equipment and poses danger to our employees.
The Exeter Township Road Crew is charged with public street snow removal throughout Exeter Township. In addition to removing the snow from Exeter owned streets, they also plow some of the State roads to enable our residents to get moving quickly.
Contrary to popular belief, the crew does not intentionally plow driveways shut!! It is in your best interest to wait until they have plowed your street before shovelling your driveway so you don't have to shovel twice.
If you live on a cul-de-sac please have patience. Cul-de-sacs are the last streets to be plowed, as they are the most difficult and time consuming.
Please refrain from calling the Township office during a snow storm, unless it is a true emergency. Rest assured that the Highway Department is on call as soon as the snow begins. Exeter Township has hundreds of miles of roads - the plows will get to your street as soon as possible.
REMOVAL OF SNOW FROM THE SIDEWALKS
The Board adopted Ordinance #498, which requires property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks within forty-eight (48) hours after the same shall have ceased to fall. Many complaints have been received that lack of snow removal from sidewalks is hazardous, particularly for children walking to and from their bus stops, those 55 or older and handicapped individuals.
